The symposium, chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Saadoun Haseeb Aref, Dr. Maad Saleh Hassan, and Assistant Professor Ramadan Muhammad Al-Mashhadani, addressed the Gulf Cooperation Council, which was established in 1981 and includes the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait. The symposium aims to achieve coordination, integration, and interconnectedness among member states in all fields: economics, finance, trade, customs, transportation, education, culture, social, health, media, tourism, legislative, and administrative.

As for Iraq's relationship with the Council, it did not join the Council despite its location on the Arabian Gulf for political reasons, particularly during the Iran-Iraq War and the invasion of Kuwait.
