The thesis, which was discussed in the presence of the Dean of the College of Law and Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Murad Saeb Mahmoud, aimed to study traffic crimes and the reasons that lead to the occurrence of these crimes, including the failure to control speed limits and the efficiency of traffic systems in reducing traffic accidents and protecting the individual and society.
The thesis concluded that most of those describing the total deaths resulting from traffic accidents in the world are concentrated among road users who are most at risk, namely: pedestrians, cyclists and motorcycle riders, and that motorcycle accidents lead to major injuries and deaths.
The thesis recommended amending the Iraqi Traffic Law No. 8 of 2019, and adding paragraphs specific to motorcycles and mandatory provisions for their drivers to wear helmets, gloves and all other safety measures that apply to drivers of other vehicles.
